This past week was a total miss on the FanDuel fights to target aside from the Robbie Lawler suggestion. It seems like it almost always plays out like that on a slate where the favorites are so straightforward as well, the dogs show up and turn the slate upside down.
After the amazing performance that was UFC 290, at least on paper, UFC Vegas 77 is questionable. The main event is a Holly Holm fight, which should tell you what you need to know. However, there are a couple of exciting fights on the slate, so let's take a stab at finding the best fights to target for your lineups…and hopefully, be on the correct side of them.
Below you will see my recommended fights to target on the FanDuel slate for UFC Vegas 77. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to tweet @WeWantPicks on Twitter and they will definitely get back to you ASAP.
FIGHT #1 TO TARGET (-650 FDNGTD)
NAZIM SADYKHOV ($16) vs. TERRANCE MCKINNEY ($15)
We are going to kick this write-up off with my favorite fight on the card. I absolutely love to watch Terrance McKinney fight. He goes into all of his fights with a kill-or-be-killed approach, and that is what fans like myself enjoy the most. At some point, fighters will realize that entertainment is a much easier path to riches than being the best. Let’s take a good look at this one.
Nazim Sadykhov is a technically sound striker that primarily attacks with his kickboxing. He is coming off a stoppage win over Evan Elder where a cut above Elder’s eye caused the doctor to stop the fight in the third round. Nazim isn’t exactly what I would call super dangerous, but he is very capable and manages to keep himself upright for the most part with an 80% takedown defense.
On the other side of the cage is Terrance McKinney who is a wrestler who is very athletic and also has really solid power in his hands. McKinney wastes no time in his fights trying to get his opponent out of there, and this one should be no different. The problem, or question mark, that surrounds McKinney is his cardio. Once that initial burst is gone from McKinney, he has had problems with continuing in the past.
As much as I love McKinney, if I had to just pick one of these two, it would be Sadykhov. The cardio questions around McKinney as just too concerning, and I think Sadykhov can definitely weather the early storm and finish McKinney after he is tired. If I was playing multiple-entry contests, however, I would have both of these guys and not even think twice about it.
FIGHT #2 TO TARGET (-550 FDNGTD)
FRANCISCO PRADO ($16) vs. OTTMAN AZAITAR ($15)
Speaking of fights that you really need both sides of, here is another super exciting fight on the UFC Vegas 77 slate between two guys that are very finish-heavy and dynamic in their approach. No matter which direction this one ends in, my guess is it happens in the very first round.
Ottman Azaitar is a powerful striker who was cruising in the UFC right up until he ran into a very motivated Steamrolla who ended the hype and generated some of his own. Azaitar is known for first-round finishes and has two of them in the UFC in his three fights since joining the promotion. One of the really impressive numbers when it comes to Azaitar is his striking defense as well, currently sitting at 63% and having contributed to a very impressive striking differential for Azaitar.
Francisco Prado on the other hand, has in fact seen a third round in his only UFC fight, which was a loss to Jamie Mullarkey where he was taken down and clinched to almost five minutes of control time given up. He won’t have to worry about being taken down in this one though, which should open the door for him to generate more offense of his own – assuming he doesn’t get clipped early by something. Prado is also a very capable grappler should he be able to get Azaitar to the ground.
I am pretty firmly on the Azaitar side of this fight. I believe he is more proven and has the more reliable striking in this matchup. I definitely wouldn’t look at you funny for being on the Prado side though, but at pick ‘em odds and salaries I think Azaitar is a gift.
FIGHT #3 TO TARGET (-750 FDNGTD)
JACK DELLA MADDALENA ($23) vs. BASSIL HAFEZ ($8)
Despite this fight having the most favored line not going the distance, I put it in the third spot. This is 100% because I would look at you funny for playing Hafez. There is plenty of ‘maybe’ vibe in the online MMA spaces around him, mostly due to a draw with Jerimiah Wells, but I can’t support that nonsense.
Jack Della Maddalena should make this look easy facing a short-notice opponent, and I believe a knockout is coming. I will give Hafez this though, he looks tough…so it might not happen until the second round.
