This is a rematch from about 2 years ago where we got 15 seconds of fighting before Tom blew his knee out.
I used to be a Curtis Blaydes guy. You all know that I love my wrestlers, especially a heavyweight who wrestles like a welterweight. The problem is that he abandoned his wrestling. So when I break down Curtis fights, I can't even assume he will use his best skillset. i have to assume now that he will go into his first title fight looking to strike. That will not bode well for him here. Tom is the far better striker and honestly might work in takedowns as well. Tom has the be the pick but in usual Angelo fashion here is your warning – these are heavyweights and anything can happen.
Tom Aspinall
Tom Aspinall could possibly be the most well rounded heavyweight in the UFC. He has solid striking, solid wrestling, and a BJJ blackbelt. He has excellent hand speed, good defense and a diverse attack style where he mixes in kicks well. But he isn't just a striker, he also has a 100% takedown accuracy, 100% takedown defense and averages almost 4 takedowns per 15 minutes. He is coming off the short notice knockout win over Sergei Pavlovich to win the interim title.
Curtis Blaydes
Curtis Blaydes is a fantastic wrestler who averages around 6 takedowns per fight. He has Fast and clean entries to double legs and when he touches the legs, he sprints. But as much as we praise his wrestling he hasn't even attempted a takedown in almost 3 years. His hands deserve credit as well with clean technique and heavyweight power. He is coming off the win over Jailton Almeida where he was taken down 9 times but managed a TKO in the 2nd when Jailton froze up.
