I keep going back and forth here. On one hand i tell myself that Josh Van is the new generation of fighter and we are entering an era where pure wrestlers just aren't getting it done. On the other, we have seen Josh get taken down 3 times in 3 fights and we know Tagir will wrestle heavy. I am going pick Tagir here, but I wouldn't be shocked if Josh gives up the first round only to defend takedowns and bomb away in the second and third.
Tagir Ulanbekov
Tagir Ulanbekov is a dominant come forward wrestler with decent striking. He has a nice jab and right behind it is a takedown attempt. All 4 of his UFC wins were very grappling heavy with 12 takedowns and 2 submissions. The only real complaint I have about Tagir is his takedown defense. Tim Elliott exposed him a bit and when he fights high level wrestlers he could have a bit of trouble. He is coming off the win submission win over Cody Durden where he dropped him, took him down twice and submitted him in the second round.
Joshua Van
Josh Van is only 22 years old and walking into his third UFC fight. Style wise he is a solid striker with aggression and a bit of power. His takedown and scramble skills are ok. He is the new generation of fighter so even though he is primarily a striker, he is good everywhere and can grapple as well. He does a nice job looking for things in scrambles and making his opponents work. He is coming off the KO win over a debuting Felipe Bunes.
