This is a great matchup and a real test for both of these guys. Tagir is a massive step up compared to Clayton's previous opponents but as I mentioned, Tagir can be taken down. If Clayton comes in and wrestles instantly, he can absolutely have some success, the same success Tim Elliott did. But I do think Tagir is a little experienced, a little too well rounded and just a little better everywhere. Tagir will be the pick, but if these odds continue to widen, we might get some solid prop bets.
Tagir Ulanbekov
Tagir Ulanbekov is a dominant come forward wrestler with decent striking. He has a nice jab and right behind it is a takedown attempt. All 4 of his UFC wins were very grappling heavy with 12 takedowns and 2 submissions. The only real complaint I have about Tagir is his takedown defense. Tim Elliott exposed him a bit and when he fights high level wrestlers he could have a bit of trouble. He is coming off the cancelled fight against Josh Van which didn't happen because Tagir missed weight and was seemingly in pain while holding his stomach.
Clayton Carpenter
Clayton Carpenter is a very slick grappler who will take wild chances hunting for submissions. He is a very fast paced guy who rushes forward and immediately sets the tone. He is always hunting for a finish and even though he is only 8-0 as a professional, he has a ton of competition experience. He has been competing since he was a teenager all over the world. He is coming off the submission win over Lucas Rocha where the wrestling and control were great but it was clear his striking needs work.
