Rei Tsuruya vs. Joshua Van

VAN VS. TSURUYA

We kind of just saw this at UFC 310 when Cody Durden was blindly diving for legs. The good news for Rei is that Cody had a couple of takedowns early and seemed to have a path. The bad news is that he was absolutely mauled on the feet and the takedowns became irrelevant pretty quickly. Rei is undefeated so we don't quite know how good he is or isn't yet, but I do think this looks similar to the Cody fight where some early wrestling success can end with one sided striking. Van will be the pick but likely waiting for takedown props.

Rei Tsuruya

Rei Tsuruya is a nasty grappler with solid hands and aggression. His takedowns are slick and big. He will take your back standing, pick you up and slam you to the ground. He will instantly transition to ground and pound and look for the finish. He has plenty of cardio, plenty of composure and is a guy that can really make something happen if he stays on this trajectory. He is coming off the UFC 303 win over Carlos Hernandez where he went 3 for 8 in takedown attempts.

Joshua Van

Josh Van is a solid striker with aggression and a bit of power. His takedown and scramble skills are decent and as he is only 23 years old, everything is improving from fight to fight. He is the new generation of fighter so even though he is primarily a striker, he is good everywhere and can grapple as well. He does a nice job looking for things in scrambles and making his opponents work. He is coming off the one sided win over Cody Durden where he gave up a few takedowns early, but then completely took over.
