This fight was supposed to happen back in February but it was cancelled on fight day when Rosas got sick in the locker room. There were rumors of it being scheduled the following week but Turcious, understandably so, shut that down and did not accept that fight.
If all you did was look at stats to pick fights, you could have some success but fights like this will lead you astray. The stats will say that Rosas averages around 4 takedowns per 15 minutes and not only does Ricky have poor takedown defense, he just gave up 7. But if you watch tape you'll see that his scrambles and pace are insane. In fact, he has 2 fights in the ufc where he was taken down 6 or more times and he won both of them. He won those fights because the thrives in the chaos of wrestling scrambles. He has his most success defending takedowns, landing and outpacing his opponents. We watched Rosas dominate and then gas in the Rodrguez and even though he has a win since then, the win was under 1 minute and we don't know if his cardio has been cleaned up. Rosas should win here because we now know he has power in his hands and he will have the better BJJ, but I personally don't trust him yet. He is young, we have seen him fold under the pressure before and Ricky isn't going to let up.
Raul Rosas Jr.
Raul Rosas Jr is a non stop grappler who showed us some power in his last fight. He has 8 takedowns in 4 fights with 19 minutes of control time. His striking definitley needs some work as he comes in a little reckless and can get put himself into harms way for no reason. But he is fast, athletic and sets an absolutely relentless pace. He off the sub 1 minute KO win over Terrence Mitchell at Noche UFC.
Ricky Turcios
Ricky Turcios is very fun to watch with a crazy style. He moves forward with a ton of pressure and an insane variety of strikes. He will throw anything from anywhere and smile while doing it. In half of his UFC fights he landed more than 100 significant strikes and that includes a loss. He doesn't have much to offer outside high volume and high pace because he has a very low 25% takedown accuracy and a sub 50% takedown defense. He is coming off a controversial win over Kevin Natividad where he was dropped and taken down 7 times but had absolutely relentless pressure and created enough scrambles to get the nod.
