Price Point Picks: UFC Mexico City

Best DraftKings Plays UFC Mexico

We are sitting at 13 fights again which is great for DFS. UFC Fight Night Mexico comes with Moreno vs Erceg as the headliner. Up and down the card you’ll see a lot of fighters from Mexico/South America for good reason, and some pretty fun matchups. We have a nice mix of wrestlers and guys with big KO power, a handful of dogs who should be live, and like clockwork a -500 prospect making his debut as the highest priced on DK. Hopefully we don’t get any missed weight cuts or pull outs, and don’t forget they’re fighting at elevation for this event so the gas tanks will be tested more than normal.

For anyone who hasn’t read this article before, this series will be released every week on Wednesday and will cover the slate by isolating the fighters that I like within the various salary groups. Please be aware that these plays are subject to change as the week goes on. $9,000+ PRICE POINT

JOE PYFER

This comes with some risk as Gastelum has a granite chin, but Pyfer has insane power and also has the chops on the mat with his BJJ if the fight goes there. I do worry a bit about his gas tank at elevation, but he rebounded from his abysmal loss very well. Unlike Kelvin when he gets a takedown he looks for a submission and a TKO finish, and Gastelum has taken much more damage over the years and eventually the chin will go.

RAUL ROSAS JR.

Personally I am not a big fan of his, but he is going to grind out a win here and rely on his wrestling. He averages 4 takedowns per fight and will look to chain wrestle and get a submission on morales who only sits at 60% takedown defense. The wrestling upside brings huge DK scoring into play.

$8,000 – $8,900 PRICE POINT

BRANDON MORENO

Erceg is very hittable, probably a tad overrated from a good showing against Pantoja, and I will side with the more experienced former champ here fighting in his home country as the headliner. He will mix in takedowns, has 130+ strike upside and we get a possible 25 minutes for him to put on a show.

MANUEL TORRES

Dober looks to be heading towards the gatekeeper role where he is going to be fed big mean scary up and comers. Torres is a beast and his only loss in the UFC being to Bahamondes last time out, while having a 100% finish rate in the UFC in his wins. He averages 107 in his wins, and Dober has been finished in 2 of his last 3 losses-albeit one was a cut but he got destroyed.

Under $8,000 PRICE POINT

MELQUIZAEL COSTA

C-Rod is very solid, but Costa has the ability to pull a submission out of almost any position they’ll find themselves in. Costa is averaging 92 DK points in his last 3 wins, has won 3 of his last 4, and Rodriguez is a decision machine so I’ll take the guy who is an underdog and has the ability to get finishes.

JULIA POLASTRI

This is a fairly even match on paper when you analyze their stats, the difference being the fight IQ and decision making of Loopy is very questionable and that means the underdog Polastri comes in play, you need 75+ DK points from her to be 10x and her last time out in a decision win she scored 80.
