This is a very different fight for Schnell. Before he was fighting a powerful striker who was going to light his legs up. Now he is fighting a chinny wrestler who isn't very dangerous. Even though this is a “safer” matchup, I do not think it is an easier one. I think Cody wins this fight with wet blanket pressure and non-stop wrestling. Short notice could potentially be an issue, but i imagine he still gets this to the ground with Schell's 50% takedown defense. But at -300 odds for Durden and the current state of his chin, i wil probably save my money for next week's UFC 3-6
Matt Schnell
Matt Schnell is a tough as nails striker with solid BJJ. He prefers to counter strike and does a great job getting you to follow him so he can plant his feet and fire back with combinations. He doesn't shoot every often and averages fewer than 1 takedown per fight, but his BJJ is slick and he snatches things up in scrambles well. But while he can be slick on the ground he does struggle to get it there with a low 44% takedown accuracy. He is coming off the KO loss to Steve Erceg where he brought the fight but got blasted.
Cody Durden
Cody Durden is a pressure wrestler who averages almost 5 takedowns per fight. He likes to come forward, throw looping power shots and then look for those takedowns. He will chain wrestle and continue diving at legs until he gets it to the ground. While his wrestling can be non-stop pressure, he can be loose on top without much control. He has great cardio, great pressure, but a very suspect chin. He's coming off 2 losses in a row, most recently a KO loss to Bruno Silva.
