There is no UFC card on this weekend but there will be an LFA card. This card is looking pretty stacked with the theme of Brazil vs. Latin America. The prelims will be broadcast for free on YouTube on the LFA Fighting channel and the main card will be broadcast on UFC Fight Pass at 09:00 PM ET. The event takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil on July 6.
CARLOS LEAL (20-5) vs. MANUEL MENA (12-3) – Welterweight
Carlos Leal is a powerful striker for the weight class and competing for the PFL for multiple seasons. He was released after last season, most likely because was unreliable at making weight. During his time at PFL he picked up these notable wins: Ray Cooper III, Dilano Taylor and former UFC fighter David Zawada. His opponent Manuel Mena is somewhat aggressive as he punches in bunches but he is quite sloppy and leaves his chin up in the air. Leal should be able to defend any take down attempts and I expect him to find a knock out in round 1. With an impressive win I would expect to see him in a big promotion soon.
MARCOS DEGLI (10-3) vs. IGNACIO FERNANDEZ (8-2) – Flyweight
I like Degli as a prospect, and I also like him in this fight. He has fought the significantly better competition between the two and has also looked better doing it. Degli is quick for 125 lbs, and fights behind a jab very well. He throws his strikes and quickly moves out of the way with his footwork. He can also mix in wrestling which I could see happening in this fight. Fernandez is a striker but he has been out wrestled in both of his losses and even taken down in some wins. He will be smaller fighter here as well as Degli is big for flyweight. I like Degli in this fight as he will be comfortable on the feet but I can see him mix in wrestling as well as that will be his easiest path to victory.
SAMUEL DIAS (9-2) vs. RENZO CORTTI (9-4) – Lightweight
Dias is a super fun fighter to watch. All 9 of his fights are in the first round. He can get a bit wild chasing a finish but overall he is a solid striker and has good enough grappling to escape tough positions. He is big for the weight class which is probably a good reason why he has so much power. Renzo Cortti is a former competitive grappler so he will be looking to take this fight down. He hasn't fought very good competition until recently and was also knocked out two months ago. His chin is up in the air and I think he is going to be ready to be hit by Dias. I'm picking Dias to find another early finish and would like to see him on the Contender Series as his fights are so fun to watch.
APOLLO GOMES (9-1) vs. LIONEL ABOJER (10-2) – Bantamweight
Apollo Gomes trains out of Chute Boxe Diego Lima and you can tell by the way he fights. He has that aggressive signature Chute Boxe muay thai style, fighting like Charles Oliveira, Daniel Santos and Elves Brener for example. He throws a lot of kicks to the leg and to the body. He is also quite big for the weight class and has shown good take down defense in his recent fights. Abojer is a stiff target on the feet. He looks very uncomfortable striking and will definitely want this fight down to the ground. Even then he isn't the most slick striker, he is more slow and methodical. A super quick Chute Boxe guy is a bad match up for him and Gomes should be able to win a decision with his striking, or even find a KO.
PEDRO DORETO (5-0) vs. LEANDRO SOLANO (3-0) – Featherweight
This will be a grappler vs. grappler fight, except both fighters have a different grappling style. Doreto has competed all over the world in BJJ and currently holds a BJJ black belt. Doreto is a wrestle who dominates the top control position and finishes his opponents with ground and pound. On the feet Solano is a pretty solid boxer and may even be the better striker in this fight, but he always look for the take down. Doreto is tall for this weight class, with various sources stating that he is either 5'10” or 5'11”. He isn't a bad striker but it's definitely not his strong suit – He was also dropped in his last fight. I'm not confident in this fight as I don't want to overlook Solano but he hasn't fought someone as good at grappling than Doreto. So I am going to pick Doreto by submission and I'm confident this fight ends up on the ground at some point.
AIEZA BERTOLSO (3-0) vs. ALEJANDRA FERNANDEZ (1-1) – Women's Strawweight
Bertolso is definitely a prospect to watch out for as she in an IMMAF amateur world champion and has a 16-1 amateur record. She seems tall for the weight class and on the feet strikes from range with straight punches and kicks. She is definitely more of a grappler though. I couldn't find much on Fernandez and actually had to watch her Instagram reels which is where she posted some fight highlights. Fernandez seems to be pretty stiff on the feet and is a wreslter. Bertolso is -900 moneyline and I expect her to win this fight.
INGLESSON DE LARA (8-1) vs. LUCAS MILETICH (8-1) – Featherweight
This will be an exciting fight between two strikers. Miletich fights with a muay thai style and de Lara is a former professional kick boxer. Out of the two, Miletich is more likely to shoot for takedowns and on the ground he will very aggressively pursue submissions. I like this game plan for Miletich as de Lara has been taken down before. I'm picking Miletich by submission.
HUGO PAIVA (8-2) vs. RODRIGO ROLDAN (6-4) – Flyweight
I am a fan of Paiva and would love to see him in the UFC. Although Roldan doesn't have the best record, he is a very solid opponent. Roldan is tall for 125 lbs and uses that height to lock up submissions. Paiva is aggressive on the feet and is always in fun fights. He's very offensive on the feet and throws a lot of kicks. He can mix in take downs, but can also be taken down himself. I like the aggression of Paiva and I believe he has the striking advantage which he should use to win a decision.
