This fight was supposed to happen back at UFC Mexico, but Joe got the squirts and the fight was cancelled. The good news is that after Joe, and no one else on his team, started shitting himself, he decided to say horrible things about Mexico and Mexicans instead of acknowledging he has the stomach of a child.
Let's not forget that unironically Kelvin Gastelum released a VLOG series called “missing weight” where he gorged himself on local food to then only miss weight in real life. This is not a serious man. Kelvin Gastelum is the full grown man version of Loopy Godinez. All the talent in the world but insane decision making, the difference though is that Kelvin's poor decision making is outside the cage. This will be a typical Kelvin fight. He will durable as hell, winging punches, but kinda gassed and pretty slow. Joe is the better striker and should win the striking exchanges. If Joe is coming in here thinking he will one punch KO Kelvin, then he's dumb as shit because Kelvin has a top 10 chin in MMA. But if Joe just sticks to technique and is fully expecting a 15 minute fight, he should be good. Joe is the pick, but not loving the odds – especially because Kelvin wrestled his ass off in his last fight.
Kelvin Gastelum
Kelvin Gastelum might be an all time waste of talent. He is a great wrestler, a very good striker, has a granite chin and is capable of being in an absolute dog fight. The problem is he never really had any of the work ethic. He has missed weight multiple times, bounces between weight classes and almost seems to not care. About 2 years ago he linked up with Henry Cejudo, dropped to welterweight and it felt like things were turning around for Kelvin and he was about to be a force at 170 but he laid an egg. He is coming off the dog fight win over Daniel Rodriguqez where he missed weight, but also wrestled more than usual.
Joe Pyfer
Joseph Pyfer is an incredibly powerful striker who has slick BJJ in his back pocket. He hits like an absolute truck and uses his pressure to break people. He also has nice clean takedowns and has solid BJJ as well. He is coming off the Turkish touch up on the hairline and a bounce back win over Marc-Andre Barriault where his power was on full display.
