While this is short notice, Josh just finished a full fight camp last month when he was supposed to fight Tagir Ulanbkekov. That was cancelled when Tagir missed weight and seemed to have some stomach pain. This is a great fight that materialized on twitter. We will find out here how good of a prospect Van actually is. He has only seen 2 decisions in his career and I think we get a 3rd here. Josh will certainly be the more powerful striker, but Charles has the awkward in and out style as well as a ton of veteran savvy that could frustrate or confuse Josh. I'm going to pick Charles here, but very slightly and because of the experience difference. Charles is no stranger to the Octagon or short notice step-ups, The longer the fight goes the more I see Charles settling in, so he will be the pick and I have a tiny $25 bet on him at +170 – but if you wait for the +3.5 to drop, that will be much safer.
Joshua Van
Josh Van is only 22 years old and walking into his fourth UFC fight. Style wise he is a solid striker with agression and a bit of power. His takedown and scramble skills are ok. He is the new generation of fighter so even though he is primarily a striker, he is good everywhere and can grapple as well. He does a nice job looking for things in scrambles and making his opponents work. He is coming off the KO win over a debuting Felipe Bunes.
Charles Johnson
Charles Johnson is a busy, technical striker with ok takedown defense and really nice hand speed. He has nice output at almost 5 signifigant strikes per minute and can keep that pace for 15 minutes. His achillis heel has been his takedown defense. He gave up 3 fights in a row with a combined 17 takedowns. He is now currently on a 2 fight win streak with the most recent win coming over Jake Hadley where Charles looked great moving forward, but did get touched up a bit when on his back foot.
