Joel Alvarez vs. Elves Brener
ALVAREZ VS BRENER

This is another really tough fight to pick. Elves Brenner will be the far more powerful striker and if he wants to keep it on the feet, he can, because as mentioned, Joel doesn't have any takedowns at all. The concern though is Elves wrestles and may wrestle here. The only person who has taken Joel down and wasn't submitted is Arman Tsurkyan. Do we think Elves has the same submission defense as Arman? I hope so because he is going to be the pick, but I will be biting my nails the entire time.

Joel Alvarez

Joel Alvarez is very tall for the division at 6'3 and he uses that length and reach well. He has solid kicks and ok boxing but very good grappling. His grappling is interesting because he hasn't initiated a single takedown in the UFC. in fact, he hasn't defended one either. So every single takedown attempt on Joel has worked but he's so dangerous he has been able to stop 4 out of the 5 people who took him down in the UFC. So although it might be easy to Joel down, it might not be wise. He is coming off the submission win over Marc Diakiese where his striking looked sharp and Marc made the fatal mistake of taking him down.

Elves Brener

Elves Brenner has a handful of underdog KOs in the UFC but he's not a striker, he's a grappler. He has a loose striking style where he is basically just buying time and avoiding being hit. His goal is typically to get you against the cage so he can work you to the ground. He will throw bombs in the pocket and he's athletic enough to mix in kicks and spinning techniques. If he is able to get it to the ground, he's very dangerous. He is coming off the decision loss to Motobek Oralbai where he had a terrible weight cut but did showcase his toughness.
