Listen, 2-1 odds here seem off. Carlos is a dog and has been improving the wrestling. Park has plenty of finishes but they are all against pretty low level competition. Carlos has beaten 4 people in the UFC, but their combined record won't moisten your mother's panties anytime soon. The reality is that this fight is a test for Park. Can he beat a pretty tough lower level guy? If so, he moves up, if not the UFC decides to push a different prospect. The pick with be Park and i am curious to see what we get for round lines.
Hyun Sung Park
Hyun Sung Park is a very slick grappler who has one single gameplan in mind. Plot forward, find his opening and get it to the ground. He is absolutely a finisher and snatches things up very quickly. He is patient on his feet before finding his openings to close the distance and work in a takedown. He is very dangerous but the more tape you watch the more you can see how uncomfortable he can be at times on his feet. He is coming off the finish win over Shannon Ross a year ago.
Carlos Hernandez
Carlos Hernandez is a grappler with ok striking. Striking wise he has solid accuracy and deceiving power. He isn't the most technically sound guy, but he has a nice jab with a straight that follows. He is another one of these guys that has slick BJJ but not much to offer for wrestling. He will take shots but they are usually stuffed and he ends up working with the upper body. He's been known to throw up hailmary submissions like flying triangles. He is coming off the decision win over Nyam Tumendemberel where the early grappling won him the minutes which won him the fight.
