Both these guys are chinny which makes the breakdown tough. If Durden had a better chin, or even better game planning, he would be a great dog pick. The problem is that he comes into these fights thinking he is a golden gloves champion only to get dropped and put in trouble. If he wrestled earlier and didn't get sucked into firefights, he would have more success. The gunslinging makes him fun to watch and shows that he has a set of balls but Van can also send fire back his way. Shit, Durden was losing the striking exchanges in his last fight before he locked in the choke. I am surprised though that he is the dog and I think people assume this will look like the Zhalgas fight when Van was easily defending the takedowns. When Durden does decide to wrestle, he's aggressive and I will ride with that aggressiveness here. No bet yet, but I will keep an eye on the line movement tracker.
Cody Durden
Cody Durden is a pressure wrestler who averages almost 5 takedowns per fight. He likes to come forward, throw looping power shots and then look for those takedowns. He will chain wrestle and continue diving at legs until he gets it to the ground. While his wrestling can be non-stop pressure he doesn't have a lot of control (hence the 5 takedowns per fight). He has great cardio, great pressure, but a very suspect chin. He's coming off a bounceback win over Matt Schell.
Joshua Van
Josh Van is a solid striker with aggression and a bit of power. His takedown and scramble skills are decent and as he is only 23 years old, everything is improving from fight to fight. He is the new generation of fighter so even though he is primarily a striker, he is good everywhere and can grapple as well. He does a nice job looking for things in scrambles and making his opponents work. He is coming off the bounceback win over Edgar Chairez where his offensive striking was on display, but he did look like he lacked confidence and was almost finished with a spinning back fist.
