Cage Warriors 187 Quick Picks

Super quick picks, still studying for exams and taping PFL and LFA so much took up my week.

SEAN CLANCY JR. (6-0) vs. ITALO GOMES (13-4) – Welterweight

Italo Gomes is a very talented fighter I rate highly, all of his recent losses are to top guys. If Clancy wins this there is no doubt he is DWCS/UFC ready. Gomes is a wrestler and he actually holds a pretty recent win over Melquizael Costa at lightweight. Clancy Jr. is a very good striker so in this fight he needs to keep the fight on the feet. I think the -600 odds are  abit silly as Gomes genuinely is a good fighter, but Clancy should be able to win this and be the next prospect from Scotland.

Pick: Sean Clancy Jr. by KO/TKO or decision. Medium confidence.

REECE MCEWAN (8-3) vs. WESLLEY MAIA (10-6) – Bantamweight

I was once pretty high on McEwan and I thought he could become something. Unfortunately he recently got exposed a bit and is now a bit of a busted prospect. If he can't get his grappling going he can fold to better strikers. Maia is all action and is a fun watch. He has a bad record but early on his career his manager must have hated him as he took really difficult fights. We have seen him outwrestled recently by Qadrian. Tough fight to call but Maia will always come forward and is a tough match up given his pressure.

Pick: Wessley Maia by decision. Low confidence.

CHRIS BUNGARD (20-10) vs. ARTURS LEISANS (9-8) – 160 lbs

Bungard must be retiring on this card.

Pick: Chris Bungard by submission. Medium-high confidence.

OTHER PICKS:

Igor Wojtas by KO/TKO – I was very wrong about Raz Bring. His grappling is good but he lacks everywhere else

Alexandros Moumtzis by decision – Not often an 8-0 guy is the underdog but he hasn't fought good competition. I like his striking though and as long as the fight is on the feet he should win minutes.

Paull McBain by decision – This is the type of fight BetSam would put his life savings on, so don't bet it. Paull's grappling defense is a bit terrible and he's fighting a grappler. He has a big striking advantage though, but he is 36.
