The bad news is that this fight probably sucks, the good news is that one of them loses. If Pennington wins then I can bet my life this fight would make the Valentiina / Grasso fight look like a war, but at least we won't have to hear Julianna run her mouth for another 2 years insisting she is the best in the world. If Julianna wins then we likely will get more exciting fights and won't have to watch Raquel hold people against the cage for 25 minutes at a time. To go from Nunes to Pennington as the champ is tough. And to be clear, she is an excellent fighter with incredible skills, but damn is she boring. Unfortunately for us, I don't think the cage control era of Raquel is over yet and she likely grinds out a win here.
Raquel Pennington
Raquel Pennington defied the odds and become a world champion. She had a tough road to the top and has only ever fought the toughest women on the planet. So congrats to her for her accomplishments, but sucks for us, because her style is not very exciting. She marches forward with strikes and then controls from there. She has a boring grappling style because she's not really looking to get you completely to the ground but she removes any tools you might have by working you against the cage and dominating with control time and pressure. She has fantastic cardio and can be boring for a full 25 minutes without issue.
Juliana Pena
Julianna Pena is coming back after 2 years and a severe beating. She showed the world exactly how tough she is when she managed to beat Amanda Nunes, but then quickly showed us that that was a fluke when she was dominated in the rematch. Technique wise Juliana is well rounded and is solid everywhere. She makes up for any skill gaps with a dirty, gritty, underdog style. She comes forward, gets in your face and makes it sloppy. That sloppiness frustrates people and throws them out of a rhythm, especially the more technical fighters she faces. She is not usually the most skilled fighter in the cage, but certainly the toughest.
