90% of people on Tapology have PInas winning here and I am a bit surprised by that. I fully understand how devastating his power is and I also know Wes was finished in one of his losses, but it's not as though Pinas has wrestling. If Pinas was as good of a wrestler as the two people who beat Wes, then I would understand, but that's not the case. And before you spam “Wes loss to Dylan Budka bro” I know he did, but Dylan is a high level wrestler who was working towards the olympics at one point. That was Wes' 4th professional fight and he was outwrestled. I am torn down the middle. I want to say Pinas because of the power, but watching him get taken down and controlled would be so frustrating because of how obvious that was. I will pick Schultz here but lets see what odds and props are before we make any concrete decisions.

Wes Schultz

Wes Schultz is a credentialed wrestler who made the leap to MMA about 5 years ago. He was 47-0 in high school, then an all american in Juco then a D3 all American. You can see those wrestling accomplishments inside the cage as well. He moves forward and works in takedowns. He does a nice job moving from one technique to another, for example he will shoot a double then work up the body for a bear hug and trip. On top he has good control and stays busy. But like so many other dominant wrestlers, if he cant win the wrestling exchanges, he isn't winning the fight.

Damian Pinas

Damian Pinas is a stalky striker who is so composed he seems almost disinterested. But once he connects you likely go to sleep. His power is insanely impressive and he hides the big right hook behind an easy jab. he can grapple as well and does a great job grabbing submissions when they are available instead only looking for KOs. His takedown defense is ok. It isn't great but because he has so much power people tend to take shitty shots from far away.
