Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane

ASPINALL VS GANE

While we have somehow seen Tom Aspinall defend his title before, that was an interim title and now that Jon Jones officially retired, Tom Aspinall will be defending the undisputed heavyweight championship for the first time ever.

I am going to pick Tom here, but before I do, let me make a couple of weird points. First, Ciryl doesn't deserve to be here. Not only did he lose his last fight, I'd argue that he's a failed prospect and I have no idea why the UFC keeps shoving him into title fights. This is his 3rd and I fully expect him to go 0-3. Second, we don't actually know how good Tim Aspinall is. Sure, he beat a bunch of people, some of them pretty good, but he has only fought 16 minutes in 9 UFC fights. None of us have any clue whatsoever what happens if Tom is in trouble or if this fight goes long. Sure, he beat the piss out of everyone and did it quickly, so with that alone, he is obvsuly a great fighter, but on a scale of Chase Sherman to Stipe Miocic, I don't where Tom is just yet. Tom's definitely the pick and I hope he wins, but I also hope we see a longer and Tom in some trouble so we know what to expect going forward.

Tom Aspinall

Tom Aspinall could possibly be the most well rounded heavyweight in the UFC. He has solid striking, solid wrestling, and a BJJ blackbelt. He has excellent hand speed, good defense and a diverse attack style where he mixes in kicks well. But he isn't just a striker, he also has a 100% takedown accuracy, 100% takedown defense and averages more than 3 takedowns per 15 minutes. He is coming off the KO win over Curtis Blaydes more than a year ago

Ciryl Gane

Ciryl Gane is a technical striker who has high volume and a well rounded arsenal. He has one of the best in and out striking games in the heavyweight division. His striking differential is an impressive 5-2 which speaks to how incredible his footwork and movement really is. He also uses that footwork to setup the occasional takedown. He is coming off the sketchy decision win over Alexander Volkov where many, including myself, think he lost.
