We are heading into UFC Fight Night Edmonton, where Buckley fights the pride of Canada Mike Malott. This card being in Canada naturally has half the canadian roster on the card, but overall it should be a fun card and hopefully we keep seeing the finishes that have been on the rise this year. Top to bottom it is a good fight night card, and I think we will see a bunch of finishes and some decent DK scoring for this card.
For anyone who hasn’t read this article before, this series will be released every week on Thursday and will cover the slate by isolating the fighters that I like within the various salary groups. Nick Galanti
He is a super high paced wrestler who will drag LeBlanc to the mat and hunt a finish. LeBlanc will have a chance if he can keep it on the feet, but we want people who can rack up big DK scores and he will shoot takedowns repeatedly against an opponent who is not very good.
Erin Blanchfield
Jaz is a very solid fighter but Blanchfield is just a little better everywhere, and the 10 year age gap combined with Erin only having lost to Manon Fiorot in the UFC makes this seem like she is about to show out and hunt a finish like she got last fight against Tracy. Blanchfield ITD seems like a pretty solid play here.
Christian Perez
I think we see Perez just close the distance and drag Nelson to the mat repeatedly here until he finds a finish. Nelson is an okay UFC fighter all things considered, but Perez is going to be the more skilled fighter who can get Nelson down to the mat with his 66% takedown defense and Perez showing he will shoot for takedowns, which score well for DK purposes.
$8,000 – $8,900 PRICE POINT
Jhonata Diniz
I don’t think Bozer is particularly good anymore, and moving up to heavyweight just means he now faces guys who have heavier hands than he is used to, which is what we saw last time he fought. I do not think Diniz is a world beater, but in this matchup he should be able to find success against the smaller Boser.
Kyle Daukaus
He has more ways to win, and is fighting a 36 year old vet who has been KO’d a bunch, and Daukaus can either win on the feet or get it to the mat and find a Darce choke here. I expect this to finish inside the distance, and Daukaus to do it in the first two rounds.
Melissa Croden
High level fight here, where we see Croden a slight favorite who has won 4 of her last 5 fights, and she has higher offensive output on the feet, has a slight size advantage, averages 2 takedowns per fight and Chandler has a porous 25% Takedown Defense, so I think Croden just drags her down until she cannot get back up and finds a finish.
Under $8,000 PRICE POINT
Joaquin Buckley
I think Malott is a little overrated, and he seemingly never fights outside of Canada. I think Buckley has more power, is a slightly better offensive wrestler and I do not think Malott’s wrestling can control Buckley. Buckley is the more explosive athlete, has more power, and I tink he can get a KO here and upset the home favorite.
Soo Young Yoo
He has very good DK scoring upside due to his fighting style where he averages over 4 takedowns per fight. Chovancek is the undefeated Canadian prospect who is the favorite here, but DK rewards the takedowns and control time so an underdog with more experience fighting someone who wants to stand is a good stylistic matchup to target.
Nate Landwehr
He has lost 3 in a row, while being knocked out in all 3, but Nallo is an older prospect who did well on DWCS and then got mauled in a brawl for his debut. If we are taking risks, I will take a risk on the veteran who has way more experience against better competition and can play the spoiler to the syrup drinking home crowd.
