25% of people are picking Gillian here. 25%. So one quarter of you sat down, did your research and then said “yup, Gillian wins here”. To you, I say “what the hell are you thinking?”. I couldn't convince myself that Gilian had more than a 10% canche if I tried. I don't even think Dern won her last fight, but I am still very confident in the fact that she will win this one. She is better than Gillian literally everywhere. She is the better striker, the better grappler and somehow the better wrestler. She is all time tough and unless she somehow didn't train because she was too busy posting thirst traps, she should run away with this. If you are picking Gillian, I am genuinely curious to hear how you think she wins. If Gillian had the wrestling of Tatiana Suarez, then I get it, but she doesn't, so there is literally no path to victory. Dern is the very confident pick – but lets be clear, this is Weili's belt and she takes it back whenever she wants and however she wants.
Mackenzie Dern
Mackezie Dern is an amazing grappler who has had mixed results in MMA before she became the world champion in her last outing. While her grappling remains elite and her striking has dramatically improved, she has not progressed as well in the wrestling with a horrific, ye somehow improved, 18% takedown accuracy. But she is insanely tough and has no quit in her at all. She is coming off the title win over Virna Jandiroba where I personally thought she lost, but respect what a war that fight ended up being.
Gillian Robertson
Gillian Robertson is a grappler. She averages close to 3 takedowns per fight and has 9 submission wins which gives her the record for most finishes in the women's flyweight division. Her ability to get women to the ground and submit them is very important because her striking is not good enough to hang in most fights. In fact, I would venture to say that anyone with decent takedown defense and solid striking will beat her. Her takedown accuracy is a little better than Mackenzies at 40% but she hasn”t been fighting the same level of competition. She is coming off the decision win over Amanda Lemos where she had 3 takedowns and landed 12 strikes.
