Colby Thicknesse vs. Josias Musasa

THICKNESSE VS MUSASA

We don't have odds yet for this fight, but I do see that 80% of the public is picking Colby here. I don't get it. I mean I get picking him, but I don't get how the overwhelming majority is picking him. He is primarily a jiu jitsu guy with sub par takedowns. If he can't get the takedowns he is stuck striking with the much faster and more powerful Musasa. If we look at both of their UFC debut's I would argue that Musasa had lapses in judgement and was closer to a fluke where Colby just wasn't very good. The counter argument though is that Colby fought the much better opponent. I'm really torn on what to do here, but my gut, just instant reaction here is that Colby kinda sucks and Musasa wins. So let's go with that.

Colby Thicknesse

Colby Thicknesse is a pretty well rounded guy and notably one of Alex Volkanovski's training partners. He is mostly a grappler who uses striking to close the distance and move to a clinch or the cage so he can work takedowns. His triking is very lose where he has low hands and bounces around. He can bring some power because of how he leaps in and throws heavy, but he is pretty wide and hittable. He is coming off the short notice UFC debut against Ilia Topuria's older brother.

Josias Musasa

Josias Musasa is a fast and powerful striker who does a very good moving forward and looking for a finish while maintaining his defense. He isn't much of an offensive wrestler, but if he ends up on top, he will wail away looking for a finish. He has insane power, especially at this weight class and he knows it. Which is why he moves forward and head hunts. He's a ton of fun to watch, very creative on the feet and very fast everywhere. He is coming off the loss to jiu jitsu nerd Carlos Vera where he made zero adjustments whatsoever.
