Alex Perez vs. Charles Johnson

PEREZ VS JOHNSON

This is a way closer fight than Tapology voters are seeing. The overwhelming majority of people think Charles John is just going to run away with this fight, but I don't. Alex Perez is very good, you can't just look at the red dots on his record and make assumptions. he was beating Asu as a massive underdog and got caught, before that he was beating Tatsuro Taira but blew out his knee, he lost to the undefeated Muhammad Mokaev, he lost to world champions Alexandre Pantoja and Deiveson Figueredo. So yes, Perez has a lot of losses, but they are top tier and many are fluke-ish. I am going to every so ridiculously slightly pick Perez here because i thought he looked absolutely fantastic against Asu and if he works in a wrestle heavy gameplan he could squeak out a close fight. I may change this pick as the fight gets closer as well, so be sure to check for an updated breakdown.

Alex Perez

Alex Perez is a very good striker with fantastic low kicks and solid wrestling. He enters the pocket with solid boxing combinations and then finishes those exchanges with leg kicks and then circles out. He averages more than 2 takedowns per fight and has a sold 75% takedown defense. He is coming off submission loss to Asu Almabayev where he was winning early with pressure but a 3rd round takedown attempt got him guillotined.

Charles Johnson

Charles Johnson is a busy, technical striker with decent takedown defense and really nice hand speed. He has nice output at almost 5 significant strikes per minute and can keep that pace for 15 minutes. He is 7-5 in the ufc but all 5 losses are to quality fighters and the 7 wins are against young prospects, including the currently flyweight world champion Joshua Van. He is one of the more active fighters on the roster and carved out a prospect killer niche for himself. He is coming off the come from behnd win over Lone'er Kavanaugh.
