Movsar Evloev is an incredible wrestler and a technical striker. But i think you need to be more than that to beak Volk, especially in a 5 round fight. I don’t think Evloev has the power to get Volk nervous or an adequate backup plan if his wrestling doesn’t work. Part of me wants to talk about Volk vs Islam 1 and go on and on about how incredible his defensive wrestling looked, but that fight was almost 4 years ago so its hard to fully lock Volk in but the genuine takeaway from that fight was that Volk is a dog and is improving even at his age. Movsar only has 1 way to win and thats wrestle enough to convince the judges you won. But even with wrestle friendly judges, we have never seen Volk accept positions and whats better, he doesn’t get frozen by the idea of a takedown, he lets his hands go and fights at all times. I think Alex wins this fight by defending the majority of the takedowns and running away with the striking but i would be crazy to ignore the age.
Alexander Volkanovski
Alexander Volkanovski is in the conversation for one of the best pound for pound fighters we have ever seen. He has destroyed pretty much every featherweight they have given him and while he won’t go down as a 2 division champ he will go down as a 2 time champion. He has takedowns, striking, grappling, cardio, fight IQ and outside of getting older and taking a few tough fights on short notice, he’s been perfect. He lands more than 6 significant strikes per minute and averages almost 2 takedowns per 15 minutes which is a testament to his well rounded skillset. He is coming off the title defense over Deigo Lopes.
Movsar Evloev
Movsar Evloev is a decision machine. He is a fantastic wrestler who uses his striking really well to setup his takedowns. He keeps his punches long and manages range well. Then he lowers his level and shoots. The adjustments and setups differentiate his wrestling from a lot of others in the division and is why he has 51 takedowns in 10 UFC fights. He is coming off the questionable win over Lerone Murphy.
