I think Abus Magomedov is a bit overrated because of how hittable he can be, but I did watch Cam Rowston get cracked with about 5 unanswered overhands from Cody Brundage. What’s funny about this matchup is both of these guys are primary strikers who have decided to wrestle a ton lately. So if i am assessing who the better striker is, I think its Abus, then if i go down to who the better wrestler is, offensively it’s Cam, but no one has taken Abus down in the UFC. I am going to ever so slightly lean Cam here for two reasons, 1. I think he has the better chin and we have seen Abus get dropped and 2. He has the better cardio where Abus tends to fade. This is a tricky matchup and likely comes down to game planing and conditioning.
Abus Magomedov
Abus Magomedov is a versatile striker with wrestling as a backup plan. He has very sneaky power because it never looks like he’s throwing big shots but he can put people down. He is a long striker who does a great job using his length to counter and keep people on the end of his strikes. He will throw everything from tight hooks to head kicks and even though he can be hittable, he recognizes if he is on the wrong end of an exchange and quickly shoots double legs to get it to the ground but can fade as fights go long. He is coming off the submission win over Michael Oleksiechuck where he dropped and then guillotined him.
Cam Rowston
Cam Rowston is a good striker with solid volume and variety. He does a nice job throwing straight strikes, but can be hittable. He has plenty of power and is very composed for a young guy. Grappling wise he can hang and create scrambles, but the raw wrestling isn’t fantastic. He is coming off the decision win over Robert Brzchek where he had 3 takedowns and 5 times’d the strikes.
