We have the newest fight on the card, this was added today, Friday September 25th. I don’t see any record of Jacobe being on this card, so it does seem like this entire thing was just slapped together and added out of nowhere, especially when you consider that Bruce just fought last week and won in 48 seconds.
This is a crazy short notice fight and given that Bruce is 5 days removed from his last fight, I can only assume this was put together to add Jacobe. Bruce is a full time fireman and while it’s hard to manage a full time career and the UFC, fireman is probably one of the few jobs where it can work. In fact Stipe Miocic, the most decorated heavyweight in UFC history was a fireman, same with Chris Lights Out Lytle. So it’s possible, but I don’t think it matters. Bruce is powerful and tough, but he’s not winning here. Jacobe is too good of a wrestler, too fast of a striker and in my opinion too good to lose here. I think Jacobe gets it done and gets it done early. Short notice is a concern but I have to trust that if they accepted this, they are prepared.
Jacobe Smith
Jacobe Smith is a 2x junior college National Champion and D1 All American who can strike. His striking is not great but it is fast as hell with very real power. When he gets the takedowns he has great pressure, great hips and is always working. He sets a nice pace and is always looking for a finish either on the feet or the ground. He is a well rounded guy but very early in his career and hasn’t had any adversity yet. He only knock on him at this point in his career could be his cardio because we’ve seen him slow down, but he keeps winning and keeps winning by finish. Most recently against a short notice Josiah Harrell.
Bruce Whitehead
Bruce Whitehead is a full time fireman who who learned he can knock people out. Style wise he’s a dangerous striker with a very upright stance. He likes to plot forward and throw one twos before fully committing to combinations. He has very real power in everything that he throws and even though he isn’t very fast, he has clean entries. He can wrestle as well with solid takedowns and top control.
