I believe the women's fight on this card has been cancelled so I will update this article again closer to the time.
MAYTON PEREA (8-3) vs. ZEVAN HUNT (7-0) – Welterweight
MAYTON PEREA 8-3 (5 KO, 3 SUB)
There is some hype and excitement about Perea but i will admit I am unsure if this guy is any good. He is very stiff. He stands upright in the middle of the cage with no footwork and just throws his strikes from that stance. He has big power that does create some wild KOs but that is about the extent of his skillset. I saw him gas out and quit only 4 fights ago against Lyapunov. He showed in that fight he has absolutely nothing on the ground either as he slipped over and couldn't get back over when Lyapunov camped in his guard. He did drop Lyapunov in the first round though so even in a bad loss he got the power going.
ZEVAN HUNT 7-0 (3 KO, 3 SUB, 1 DEC)
Hunt is also hard to gauge. His striking is really bad and he has some of the worst defense I have ever seen. He just stands upright with his hands low. However he is very effective in the clinch. He is a grinder who wants to clinch against the cage and use knees to damage the head and the body. On the feet he doesn't offer much as his striking is not technical at all. His wrestling is just okay and was really exposed by Smyth in his last fight as he did get taken down and put in bad position in round 1. His cardio also wasn't great was we was visibly tired at the start of round 2. However, when the fight is on the ground his grappling is excellent. He pulled off a nasty kneebar against Smyth from the back.
PREDICTION
This fight ultimately comes down to whether or not Hunt can get the fight to the ground. On the feet Perea is at a massive advantage as Hunt has horrible defense. On the ground, Hunt is at a massive advantage as he is a slick grappler and I don't think Perea knows how to grapple at all. I am going to side with the fact that Hunt will be able to find a submission as he is good at finding the back. Both guys also have awful cardio but if anyone is going to be able to pick up the pace in rounds 2 and 3 it would be Hunt as he is going to working Perea's body early with his clinch knees.
Pick: Zevan Hunt by submission in round 1. Low confidence.
ANTONIO MONTEIRO (18-5-1) vs. TYSHAWN WILLIAMS (8-0) – Featherweight
ANTONIO MONTEIRA 18-5-1 (3 KO, 6 SUB, 8 DEC)
Despite having 24 career pro fights, there isn't much out there on Monteiro. He was on the Contender Series in 2024 where he lost a decision to Yadier del Valle. That was a fun fight but for the most part he was losing everywhere to del Valle. He gout out landed on the feet considerably and was also taken down a couple times. Monteiro himself is a wrestler mostly but at this point he has developed a well rounded game. He isn't exceptional anywhere, just is another fighter who is pretty good everywhere. On the feet he will mostly box but his defense did get exposed by del Valle. Not sure why, but it looks like Shooto Brasil 130 was removed from Fight Pass so I could not even find his most recent fight.
TYSHAWN WILLIAMS (4 KO, 1 SUB, 3 DEC)
The first thought I had looking into Williams is “holy sh*t this guy is tiny”. Williams is a 5'6″ featherweight who could easily be a bantamweight. He is also like Monteiro in the fact that he is pretty good everywhere. He is very athletic, throwing fast punches and a wide variety of kicks. He is also a solid wrestler who can get take downs from anywhere. Once he gets his take down he does well to work his way to dominant positions and land ground and pound. He is an interesting prospect as I didn't find his fights to be thoroughly entertaining like most fighters they book for the show. He is coming off a huge win against undefeated Azizov where he got a round 1 KO after landing a big overhand. Maybe that KO win will give him some more confidence in his striking.
PREDICTION
Not sure what to think of this fight as I am pretty confident it will go the distance. Both guys are pretty similar in skillset to each other in my opinion. Williams will give up a size disadvantage here but he will certainly have the better cardio of the two. I also think he is the better wrestler and will be faster. That is pretty much how del Valle beat Monteiro anyways – was with speed and wrestling. Monteiro also got cut open pretty bad by del Valle's ground and pound so Williams will probably look to do the same thing here.
Pick: Tyshawn Williams by decision. Low-medium confidence.
HUGO GUILLON (7-1) vs. LUIS HERNANDEZ (7-0) – Middleweight
HUGO GUILLON 7-1 (4 KO, 2 SUB, 1 DEC)
Hugo is a unique prospect as he is pretty much a pure grappler out of France. He has pretty good wrestling and when he gets take downs he has solid control. When in control he can work his way into mount and he throws tons of ground pound. He is nearly always throwing strikes while in control. He does have a head kick KO but I don't think his striking is anything special. His defense and cardio are also concerning.
LUIS HERNANDEZ 7-0 (3 KO, 4 SUB)
This guy is hilarious. He is an absolute psychopath in the cage. On the feet he will just brawl with no regard for defense and then on the ground he is very opportunistic. This is the guy Chris Curtis and Sean Strickland attacked when he subbed Miles Hunsinger with a guillotine. He is kind of the perfect fighter fro DWCS as he is going to go out there and put it on Guillon early with his combination punches. He can throw kicks and has that 3 second KO win that went pretty viral a few years ago, but for the most part he is a boxer. I don't think he is going to be a contender or anything but he is super wild so he is always going to be in fun fights.
PREDICTION
This fight really comes down to whether or not Guillon can get the take downs. If Guillon can, he has proven to be a very talented grappler with a strong finishing ability. If he can't, he will be in a bit of trouble as I do not like his defense at all. Hernandez is also going to push a crazy pace in the striking and wrestling so Guillon's cardio will get tested as well. Maybe I will have a more confident side closer to the time but for now I am siding with Hernandez.
Pick: Luis Hernandez by KO/TKO in round 1. Low confidence.
AKBAR ABDULLAEV (13-0) vs. ANTHONY FIGUEROA (9-1) – Lightweight
AKBAR ABDULLAEV 13-0 (12 KO, 1 SUB)
I can't believe the UFC isn't signing Akbar straight up. Maybe they think they can build some hype around him by having him win here. Akbar is a proven fighter from ONE Championship where he ran through everyone they gave him. He is very high volume on the feet, always throwing some sort of strike. He regularly ends combinations with kicks also. I am most impressed with his boxing though. His eyes in the pocket is amazing, he will regularly just keep the fight in close and tag his opponents with big hooks. He can also offensively wrestle, ultimate beating Kai Tang by round 5 ground and pound finish. Despite having so many knock outs he doesn't even really throw his shots with a great deal of power. He usually ends up breaking his opponents with his volume or the right shot happens to land. He is just really good, man.
ANTHONY FIGUEROA 9-1 (3 KO, 1 SUB, 5 DEC)
Figueroa is not a bad fighter, he's just getting a really short end of the stick. He is a pressure boxer who keeps a high guard and throws in boxing combinations. He does well to create odd angles with uppercuts and hooks. The issue is I just don't think he has the power required to get the respect of Akbar in this fight.
PREDICTION
I am not trying to discount Figueroa, but this fight really should last as long as Abdullaev wants it to.
Pick: Akbar Abdullaev by KO/TKO in round 1.
