We are heading down under for UFC Perth, headlined by an awesome welterweight matchup between Jack Della Maddalena and Carlos Prates. The 170 division has 5 guys all in the mix for getting title shots, and these two should bring a fun, stand up violent fight to clear one of the names out of the way. Like always, tons of fighters from the region on this card, but overall it should be a pretty fun fight card, which we could use after the decision fest of last week.
For anyone who hasn’t read this article before, this series will be released every week on Thursday and will cover the slate by isolating the fighters that I like within the various salary groups. $9,000+ PRICE POINT
Jacob Malkoun
GM3 fighting still is wild, because I could have sworn he retired after both of his last 2 losses, yet here we are. Malkoun is bigger, stronger, more powerful striking and has elite wrestling to control GM3. However, I do not think he will wrestle much since Meerschaert has elite submissions, but I think he sends Gerald off into the sunset with his 5th loss in a row and score a shit ton of DK points.
Steve Erceg
This is kind of a make it or break it fight for Erceg it feels like. He fought for the title and then lost 3 in a row including the fight against Pantoja, and is coming off a less than impressive win against Ode Osbourne. Elliot is old, and Erceg should be better across the board here with a slight reach advantage and a 9 year age gap. I don’t think I would play him over Malkoun or Micaleff, but I think he will be the lowest owned 9K play.
Jonathan Micaleff
Themba sucksssss, and Micaleff is not a world beater, but he should beat up on Gorimbo here and look to make another statement with a finish for the second time in a row. He has submissions, averages almost 1.5 more significant strikes per minute than Themba, so he is the play here.
$8,000 – $8,900 PRICE POINT
Kody Steele
Steele looked as good as you would expect making his debut in a tough fight, and now he gets Dom Mar Fan in what should be a good fight where Steele imposes his will in the striking department. He should not struggle as much to hit Fan as he did Rongzhu, and I think we will see his talent shine here.
Brando Pericic
We have seen Shamil quit multiple times, and Brando is going to come and try to kill him from the jump. We saw Sutherland try to grapple him while rushing in, and that did not work, and if they stay at distance Brando will pick Shamil apart, so I expect him to fend off the takedowns and KO Gaziev
Carlos Prates
I have flip flopped on this a couple times, and I think you need one of them in your lineup more than likely, but Prates having a 5 inch each advantage, along with having some crazy power should skew things his way. He has very good takedown defense, and now fights a primary boxer who is going to run into the kickboxing phenom who knocks people out left and right, and has shown the grit in a 5 round fight against Garry and damn near finished him off at the end.
Under $8,000 PRICE POINT
Wes Schultz
They both are meh, but I think I will stick with the guy who has some UFC experience, and tends to look to wrestle which will score well on DK if he pulls off the upset. He will mix in many takedown attempts along with his average of 4.6 significant strikes per minute, so when it is a big toss up, I will side with the dog.
Louie Sutherland
I have picked him twice to no avail, but the Vanilla Gorilla gets a washed up Tai Tuivasa in a fight where if he loses, he should be cut from the promotion. He should be the faster fighter, he has insane leg kicks, and should be able to drag Tai down if need be. Ride or die one last time with Louie.
Beneil Dariush
I get that Dariush has a questionable chin, and Salkilld has some highlight reel knockouts so far, but we have seen time and time again the difference in levels of competition and what that does to up and coming fighters. His best win is over Mullarkey…and Beneil has fought the upper echelon of the division for years, so if he can survive the early shot and not die, I like him to find a way to win as we saw Quillan gas against Ashmouz and hang on to survive with takedowns, and that is not a path to beat Dariush at all in my opinion.
