We are heading to Miami for UFC 327, we lost the co-main event for the flyweight belt, but we still have Jiri vs Ulberg for the LHW belt. Overall a pretty solid card, losing the Taira-Van fight definitely sucks for DFS, but we trudge on, and we will find some winners this week. They stacked this card so we should be in for some entertaining fights that end via finish.
For anyone who hasn’t read this article before, this series will be released every week on Thursday and will cover the slate by isolating the fighters that I like within the various salary groups. $9,000+ PRICE POINT
Aaron Pico
Pico was looking very good against Murphy until he got caught with that spinning elbow. He took a very long break to recover from that, and now gets to fight the mediocre Pitbull Freire. Pico is better on the feet, has a 3 inch reach advantage, is the better wrestler, and is 9 years younger. I think we see Pico go on a little run to get back to fighting for a top 5 spot in the division soon.
$8,000 – $8,900 PRICE POINT
Charles Radtke
Newly added fight here, Prado is just one of those guys who is in between weight classes with his size/frame and I think we will see Radtke find another win here. He can mix in wrestling, and Prado’s takedown defense is only 50%, so look for Radtke to rack up some takedowns, and just work Prado on the feet and on the mat.
Tatiana Suarez
Suarez is just too strong of a wrestler here for Loopy. She has a 5 inch reach advantage, is a better wrestler and she averages about 1.5 takedowns per round in her career. This leads to big DK scoring when she wins because of the takedowns and control time, so I expect more of the same here and we see her Big Sister Loopy for a nice 100+ score.
Jiri Prochazka
Everyone views Ulberg as this up and coming new young guy for the division, but he is 35, has not beaten anyone near the level of Jiri, whereas Jiri has beaten everyone besides Poatan in this division. He can mix in some wrestling and submissions if need be, and we know he has the dog in him to push through the exhaustion and find a finish like he did against Glover. I get he is not the cleanest fighter, but he has the reach, the grappling, and the experience edges here.
Under $8,000 PRICE POINT
Johnny Walker
This is a fight that will come down to who gets chinned first. They both love getting knocked out in their fights, but Walker will have a massive 5 inch reach advantage and is just the bigger fighter in general. Expect chaos, and a highlight reel KO by either him or Reyes here, but in a close fight where he has the size advantage in a striking match, I will take the dog.
Josh Hokit
This is a crazy step up in competition for Hokit, and it shows you how the division is when Blaydes is fighting b2b fights against guys basically fresh off the contender series as a top 5 heavyweight. I think the upside of a big score with Hokit outweighs the risk of the levels of the fight game here, and we saw Almeida drag Curtis down 10 times and unlike Jailton, Hokit will look to find a finish with ground and pound.
Esteban Ribovics
This is a 100% clash of styles with Ribovics being the striker and Gamrot being the chain wrestler. Normally I side with the wrestlers when these matchups come to fruition, but Esteban is elite on the feet averaging over 8 significant strikes per minute, and we have seen Gamrot get chinned of late where he either goes out or it drops him and then he is in a bad spot. I think we will see Ribovics catch him with a short hook on an entry and then find a finish, but regardless this should be one of the more entertaining fights as long as it is not a chain wrestling humpfest where Gamrot does nothing but lay there.
