I like this fight a lot and I think it makes sense for both of their careers. Dan has always been very well respected and held high regard, but he's been fed to the wolves these last few years and is creeping up on being a .500 fighter. So a fight against a rising star prospect and not an established top 10 guy should actually be a welcomed change. This should determine if he is a gate keeper or a top 15 fighter. It's also a perfect matchup for Melk who continues to get wins over increasingly tougher competition. I know first hand how insanely tough Dan Ige is, i started the “Thank You Dan” chant that took the roof off of T-Mobile Arena at UFC 303 when he stepped up on a few hours notice. I'm going to split my pick and bet here. The pick will be Melk because he continues to improve everywhere. He is fast, busy, can grapple, can strike and also has dog in him. But the bet will be a +3.5 on Dan. I don't see Melk finishing Dan and I can certainly see Dan win a round if not the entire fight.
Dan Ige
Dan Ige is a fantastic kickboxer with speed and power. He also has solid BJJ and underrated wrestling. His takedown defense may look low at 56% but he has only fought killers the last couple of years and most of them are looking to take him down at some point in the fight. He is a very durable guy and a tough night for anyone. Getting him out of there is almost impossible so you need to be ready for a full 15 minute war. He is coming off the decision loss to Patricio Pitbull where he gave up 5 takedowns
Melquizael Costa
Melk Costa is a well rounded guy with creative striking and solid grappling. His takedown defense is not great, his offensive takedowns are just ok, but his scrambles are incredible. You will see him work for takedowns often, but he doesn't need them in most matchups. He has powerful hands and solid technique. He strings together combinations well and will even mix in spinning attacks. He is coming off the KO wi over a typically tough Morgan Charriere
