Josh Hokit vs. Max Gimenis

HOKIT VS GIMENIS

I came into this fight completely blind. I'm not a college football stats guy so I wasn't aware of Hokit and despite training BJJ for more than 20 years, I don't follow the actual sport side of it and didn't know Max. Coming into this blind was an interesting journey because I started on the Josh side. I saw his fights, I saw he looked comfortable on his feet, i loved how he shot takedowns and I was impressed. Then before getting to Max, I saw the odds. I saw Josh was a 4-1 favorite and I fully expected to see that Max was a striker or a slob. You can imagine my surprise when he was neither. Dude is solid, dude has great BJJ and for some reason he is a massive underdog. This is a perfect fight to find out if athleticism is enough to gets wins in the UFC as a heavyweight. Josh isn't great, but he is athletic enough to make things happen and put stuff together. If he gets the takedowns he will need to stay safe or rain down hammer fists. Luckily for us, thats what he does when he gets takedowns. So Josh is the pick, but screw these odds.

Josh Hokit

Josh Hokit is a solid prospect with a storied athletic past. He was a high level collegiate football player who bounced around between a handful of NFL teams over the course of two seasons. As you would expect he is an athletic guy with speed and power. Despite having power in his hands, he sprints forward, gets big boy takedowns and then reigns down hell. He has great hips, great speed and can keep people on the ground. He is coming off a dominant win on the Contender Series to get the UFC call up.

Max Gimenis

Max Gimenis is a very well accomplished grappler. He won worlds as a brown belt and medaled as a black belt. He is big, strong and has incredible positioning. His takedowns kinda suck, but his BJJ is good enough to work off of his back. He doesn't seem like a technical striker or even comfortable striking, but he has solid power, especially on the ground.
