This week the UFC is off to Abu Dhabi for our third to last PPV ever, and second this month, headlined by Tom Aspinal vs Cyril Gane. We are up to 14 fights as long as nobody misses weight, and we have an awesome card with a lot of fun fighters. Two five round championship fights on the card, along with two fights right before that will determine who fights next for the Bantamweight belt after Merab and Yan fight in December, and a heavyweight showdown to determine who will fight for the belt after the main event.
For anyone who hasn’t read this article before, this series will be released every week on Wednesday and will cover the slate by isolating the fighters that I like within the various salary groups. Please be aware that these plays are subject to change as the week goes on. $9,000+ PRICE POINT
TOM ASPINALL
He is facing his toughest test to date, and gets someone who is light on their feet just like he is. Overall his game is better, he has wrestling and submissions he can use, and once he smells blood he finishes in a frenzy. I think we see yet another dominate performance by Tom here.
VALTER WALKER
Matched up against Sutherland who’s making his debut after both of these guys had their opponents back out of fights. Walker obviously has very good grappling skills for the division and we will see how quickly he gets Sutherland to tap out here.
$8,000 – $8,900 PRICE POINT
JAILTON ALMEIDA
Jailton is a wrestling machine who will look to pound your face in or snatch your neck while his opponent is trying to survive. I think we see him get inside Volkov’s range and take him down and then find a finish quickly and cement himself as the next title challenger.
JOSE DELGADO
Wood is a tough opponent, but Jose has some damn good power in his hands and is coming off back to back first round TKO/KO wins. Wood will try to drag him to deep waters and down to the mat so he doesn’t get his block knocked off, but Delgado has got lights out power here.
Under $8,000 PRICE POINT
VIRNA JANDIROBA
She takes on Dern for the vacant title here, and she will get 5 rounds to implement her heavy wrestling/control time style of fighting. Dern beat her last time they fought, but Virna stays out of danger and although Dern is an elite BJJ practitioner, her offensive wrestling is shit, so she would need to catch Jandiroba making a mistake which Virna rarely does.
MARIO BAUTISTA
He had been truly hated by most fans after the Aldo fight, but he stood and traded with Patchy en route to a 173 significant strike output win. Umar is a monster, but Bautista is on an incredible win streak and I don’t think he should be the lowest priced fighter. Any win from him pays off his salary.
