Back in action this week for UFC Fight Night Perth, It has, of course, a ton of Australians on the card, but overall it is a pretty decent fight card. Headlined by Ulberg and Reyes, which is really the only big name recognition fight on the card, but for DFS purposes we have a few really good matchups to pick from. The good news is as of now we have 14 fights, until we inevitably get some jackass who misses weight. Without further ado, let’s have some fun this week.
For anyone who hasn’t read this article before, this series will be released every week on Wednesday and will cover the slate by isolating the fighters that I like within the various salary groups. Please be aware that these plays are subject to change as the week goes on. $9,000+ PRICE POINT
JAKE MATTHEWS
Has the significant wrestling edge here, is 7 years younger, is 4-1 in his last 5 fights and coming off 3 wins in a row with his last fight being a first round submission win. I think we see the same here, Magny will not be able to keep him from getting takedowns and if we are lucky we will see a little chain wrestling before Jake finds a finish and scores 110+.
ALEXIA THAINARA
Has a big 6 inch reach advantage, is more aggressive, averages almost 6 significant strikes per minute, over a takedown per round, and looks for submissions on stop once she has you on the ground. This should be a pretty face paced fight for women’s mma and I think we see Thainara get a quick win here.
$8,000 – $8,900 PRICE POINT
ANDRE PETROSKI
He is not the greatest fighter on the card, but the man is a hell of a wrestler and he is going up against Rowston who has dreadful takedown defense. He will be trying to keep Petroski at range with his 5 inch reach advantage, but I think Andre will impose his will and get to wrestling here and rack up some DK points for takedowns and control time.
JAMIE MULLARKEY
He is a tough SOB who has had some bad luck lately. Bedoya stinks, he has high output on the feet but he cannot stop a takedown and Jamie should look to wrestler here and control the fight. Mullarkey averages 4.4 significant strikes per minute to go along with almost a takedown per round of his fights, so in a win he should score pretty well for DK purposes.
Under $8,000 PRICE POINT
JONATHAN MICALLEF
A contender series wonder, he got the win in his debut against Jousset, and now gets Oban coming off his first UFC loss. Elliott had trouble with the grappling in his last fight, and Micaleff will have the option to take that route if his standup is not working out. He averages almost 5 significant strikes per minute, has a 5 inch reach advantage and I think we see him pull out the win here as a dog.
CHARLIE CAMPBELL
This is going to be a fun fight, and I think the winner is optimal this week. Charlie averages 5.55 significant strikes per minute to go along with a takedown per round. He scored 106 in his last UFC fight with multiple takedowns and good control time. Nolan will have the slight 1 inch reach advantage and be 5 years younger, but I think we see Charlie wrestle here and grind out a win.
