Roman Dolidze vs. Anthony Hernandez

dolidze vs hernandez

I know Fluffy beat Rodolfo Viera and he is also an accomplished grappler, but Roman is different. Roman as a grappler is an animal. For example, Phil Hawes has a beautiful duck under, takes Roman down and instantly loses a leg. Before you say well Phil isn't a grappler, he's just a wrestler, then fine, go watch Black Belt Jack Hermannson do the same. He took down Roman and was instantly in a pretzel fighting for his life. Taking Roman down is not a clear path for anyone, in fact he has only ever lost one fight where he was taken down and that was a BS decision against Trevin Giles before he had cardio. Speaking of cardio, that might be the difference here, Hernandez has become a 185lb Merab where he can just set an incredible pace and never slow down. This might look identical to Merab's win over Umar where the better fighter was winning early, but the pace takes over. I think Roman is the skill for skill better fighter, but the Hernandez pace, at this weight class, is insane. Slight lean for Hernandez, but might do my tried and true WITD Dec. no action on Roman.

Roman Dolidze

Roman Dolidze is a world champion grappler who has showcased those skills more than one time in the Octagon. The problem is though, you don't know when he will actually use his grappling. He has no problems marching forward, throwing heavy punches and getting stuck in a striking match. He has very real power but he does tend to chase it. Dolidze is a very well rounded fighter who can knock you out or submit you, but he doesn't always have the best gameplans and can fade later in fights. He is coming off the back and forth win over Marvin Vettori where neither grappler actually grappled.

Anthony Hernandez

Anthony “Fluffy” Hernandez is also a very good grappler who is averaging more than 6 takedowns per 15 minutes. He has solid wrestling with real entries, he's a BJJ blackbelt and although he is willing to strike, that is not his path to victory. He has incredible cardio and has quietly put together a 7 fight win streak. He is coming off the grueling win over Brendan Allen where takedowns and pace were too much.
