We obviously have a brand new main event here and while this was slapped together in a few days, it doesn't mean that Park wasn't preparing to fight. He was scheduled to fight Steve Erceg next week at UFC Vegas 109 but now his his first ranked opponent and first UFC main event.
Any time you get a last minute switch up like this it's interesting to break down. Both of these men were preparing to fight, but Taira was preparing for a 5 round fight against a striker and Park was working towards a 3 round fight against a grappler. While I do think Park is very good and he may give Taira a hard time on the ground, I think Taira is too good everywhere else and should be able to cruise here. Even the fact that Park was fighting next week is an issue. All of the sudden he has to move his weight cut up by an entire week and trust he can go 25 minutes if needed. Taira is the pick here, but Park is no slouch, this should be a fun one.
Tatsuro Taira
Tatsuro Taira is coming off his first career loss and is looking to reestablish himself as one of the best flyweight prospects on the planet. He is only 25 years old but has solid experience under his belt. Style wise he is a very patient striker with ok power in his hands and strong grappling. He does not have the best takedowns in the division but he will stick with them and drag you to the ground. He is coming off the close loss to Brandon Royval where he was behind on the striking but got 6 takedowns.
Hyun Sung Park
Hyun Sung Park is a very slick grappler who has one single gameplan in mind. Plot forward, find his opening and get it to the ground. He is absolutely a finisher and snatches things up very quickly. He is patient on his feet before finding his openings to close the distance and work in a takedown. He is very dangerous but his striking can use some work.
