We have twelve fights on tap for UFC Baku over in Azerbaijan, headlined by Jamahal Hill vs Khalil Rountree Jr. This is a very top heavy card with not many dogs looking great as of now, but maybe we will see some weight cuts that even the playing field some.
For anyone who hasn’t read this article before, this series will be released every week on Wednesday and will cover the slate by isolating the fighters that I like within the various salary groups. OBAN ELLIOT
Oban is better on the feet, in the clinch, on the ground, and is the younger faster fighter. He averages 4.25 significant strikes per minute and 2 takedowns per fight. Getting Ko on his debut after improving every fight, the pick is Oban.
CURTIS BLAYDES
This fight has been in the works for like 6 months. It is still kind of odd that Blaydes is fighting an unranked guy, but nonetheless the heavyweight division is pretty meh. He has a 25 pound weight advantage, has a 4 inch reach advantage, and has shown the ability to weather the storm from wrestlers getting him down like Almeida and still getting a TKO finish.
$8,000 – $8,900 PRICE POINT
MYKTYBEK OROLBAI
He is a dog who does not quit, and looks to wrestle when he can. He has 14 takedowns in his 3 UFC fights, is 8 years younger and gets a hometown guy making his debut. This all kind of skews to his favor as long as the doesn’t let it be close to where the hometown judges are deciding a split decision.
IGNACIO BAHAMONDES
Coming off 3 first round wins in a row, with 2 being TKO’s and the last a Submission of Jaylin Turner, Bahamondes looks like the real deal and will be a towering 7 inches taller and have a 4 inch reach advantage over Fiziev. He averages 7 significant strikes per minute, neither guy will look to wrestle much, so give me the guy with the size and power advantage in a striking match.
Under $8,000 PRICE POINT
JAMAHAL HILL
He is hated so much by fans that you forget how good he really is. He lost to Pereira and Jiri, but other than that he has looked really good in his UFC fights. He is a primary striker going against Khalil who does not wrestle. He has a 3 inch reach advantage, averages over 7 significant strikes per minute in his UFC fights, and I think we see Sweet Dreams get back in the win column.
BOGDAN GRAD
Naimov is the favorite for a reason, but when you dig into the analytics these guys are so closely matched. Both 4-1 in their last 5, 70 inch reaches, but Bogdan averages almost 6 significant strikes per minute against Naimov’s 2.9, and he averages 3.5 takedowns compared to Naimov’s 1.85, while sporting a 100% TDD vs Naimov’s 66%.
