VEGAS 57 was yet another great night of MMA at the highest level. It feels like I’m repeating myself week after amazing week but I’m simply stating facts and I’m quite certain that most MMA fans would agree with my assessment. We’ve been blessed with some fantastic fights these past weeks and tonight was no different.

VANESSA DEMOPOULOS wins a feisty decision over JINH YU FREY and cashes as a big plus money dog to get the evening started.  It was a close fight but DEMOPOULOS just seem to want it more. She was far more aggressive and able to control the action from the clinch along the cage. Congratulations to everyone who took the plus money dog shot on DEMOPOULOS. She moves to 2-0 in her UFC campaign.

MARIO BAUTISTA completely outclassed Brian KELLERHER on the feet and on the ground. BAUTISTA moved into mount with fluid ease and found the 1st round RNC finish with relative ease once he got KELLERHER to the  ground. A rather impressive win over a very savvy veteran. I can’t wait until BAUTISTA’s next outing. He is clearly improving every time out.

Cody DURDEN gets a 1st round finish over J.P. BUYS after dropping him early and swarming on him with multiple punches. BUYS was awarded every opportunity to stay in the fight and to his credit he gave it all he had but DURDEN was simply too much for him. It was immediately evident that BUYS was not reacting well to DURDEN’S strikes. This fight was basically over before it even got started.  Congratulations to DURDEN on an impressive showing and to everyone who took the plus money dog shot on him.

SERGEY MOROZOV won a 29-28 UD victory over RAULIAN PAIVA after PAIVA rocked him with punches in the 1st round. However MOROZOV showed his durability and was able to take the 2nd & 3rd rounds with superior grappling and volume as PAIVA’s output waned rather dramatically in the later rounds.

SHA YILAN NIURDENBIEKE  won a hard fought 30-27 Unanimous decision over heavy favorite TJ BROWN. NIURDENBIEKE dropped BROWN in the 1st and landed the better strikes throughout the fight. He also  controlled most of the action except for a late rally from BROWN that was simply not enough. He cashes as a sizable underdog. Congratulations to everyone who took the plus money shot on him.

CARLOS ULBERG gets his first UFC finish over TAFON NCHUKWI after he landed a check hook that landed clean and wobbled NCHUKWI.  ULBERG wasted no time moving in for the kill and found the TKO finish very early in the 1st round. I look forward to his next outing.

CHRIS CURTIS won a very impressive Unanimous decision over Rodolfo VIEIRA. CURTIS showed 100% takedown defense on multiple attempts and landed big body shots that would have made most people crumple but credit to VIEIRA for going the distance.  CURTIS continues to impress as he moves to 3-0 in his UFC campaign.

Umar NURMAGOMEDOV cruised to a 3 round decision over NATE MANESS. This was basically a NURMAGOMEDOV/Dagestani wrestling clinic and at no time was MANESS even remotely close to winning this fight. NURMAGOMEDOV moves to 15-0 as a pro and performs the way you expect the biggest favorite on the card should perform.

THIAGO MOISES gets an early 1st round standing RNC over Christos GIAGOS. This was a masterful submission that happened so fast it was basically a non event. Congratulations to MOISES on an impressive bounce back victory.

JOSH PARISIAN gets a 2nd round TKO victory over Alain BAUDOT after BAUDOT knocked him down and busted him up in the 1st. Credit to PARISIAN for weathering the storm. Congratulations to everyone who cashed on him as a slight underdog.

SHAVKAT RAKHMONOV pulls off the buzzer beater guillotine over Neil MAGNY in the dying seconds of the 2nd round and retains his 100% finish rate in impressive fashion.  MAGNY was basically in a defensive mode for the duration of the fight as RAKHMONOV passed his biggest test in the Octagon to date. This dude is a serious problem at welterweight and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

The main event between TSARUKYAN AND GAMROT was everything we thought it would be. These two extremely high level fighters treated us to a fantastic display of athleticism that encompassed every element of mixed martial arts in what was a razor close fight that went the distance. I was on GAMROT here and I personally thought that TSARUKYAN had done enough but the judges saw it unanimously for GAMROT which essentially salvaged my evening from a betting standpoint.  As far as I’m concerned this was an instant classic for the ages and both fighters delivered in spades which means it was we the fans who were the beneficiaries of some amazing mixed martial arts. While I’m always happy to cash a plus money ticket I did not agree with the judges scorecards. Congratulations to everyone who took the plus money dog shot on GAMROT with me and a massive thank you to both of these world class athletes for an awesome main event.

UFC 276 looms on the horizon as we head into international fight week for what should be yet another epic fight card. My only complaint is that I have to wait a week for it.
