ANOTHER Saturday night in the books and true to form the ufc delivers once again. I have said it before and I'll say it AGAIN: there is no such thing as a bad UFC card.

The evening's curtain jerker saw YUSSUF ZALAL & newcomer DA'MON BLACKSHEAR fight to a draw. However it was ZALAL who almost finished BLACKSHEAR in the third and scored the 10-8 on the scorecards when BLACKSHEAR's cardio fell off a cliff. I'm not sure I agree with the draw but nonetheless it was a great way to start the event.

Debuting DWCS graduate QUINLAN starched JASON WITT in the 1st round after being taken down by WITT who was looking good early but unfortunately for him his chin was no match for QUINLAN who showed discipline and control when he pulled back and stopped short with his follow up strikes as he realized he had thoroughly slept WITT. I look forward to seeing what QUINLAN does next.

TYSON NAM gets the 1st round KO victory over ODE OSBOURNE after being out of the cage for well over a year due to injury. NAM had a very telling smile on his face for the duration of the fight and proves himself to be just as powerful at 38 yrs old. He cashes as a sizable underdog so congratulations to everyone who took the plus money dog shot on him.

GABRIEL BENITEZ also scored a 1st round GNP TKO victory over CHARLIE ONTIVEROS after ONTIVEROS hit him with a few axe kicks that looked rather dangerous.  However Moogly showed his veteran savvy and handed ONTIVEROS his 3rd consecutive UFC loss.

NINA NUNES won a lukewarm decision over CYNTHIA CALVILLO. This was not exactly a slug fest but NUNES controlled most of the action and won decisively.  Afterwards she dropped her gloves into the center of the octagon and announced her retirement. She cashes as a sizable underdog.  Thank you for your service NINA and congratulations on a great career. Congratulations to everyone who took the plus money dog shot on her.

MARTIN BUDAY squeaks by with a questionable split decision victory over newcomer and DWCS graduate LUKASZ BRZESKI. I personally scored the fight for BRZESKI but as someone who was on BUDAY I was quite happy about the questionable decision.  We take the good with the bad in this game and it's always nice when we get the bounces.

ANGELA HILL wins  a unanimous decision victory over highly touted prospect LUPITA GODINEZ who did not perform as expected on this night. CREDIT to HILL for a gutsy performance in front of her hometown.  She cashes as a huge underdog so congratulations to everyone who took the plus money shot on her.

GERALD MEERSCHART does it again with one of his patented 3rd round submissions. MEERSCHART clubbed and subbed BRUNO SILVA who seemed to be a step behind in this one. MEERSCHART dropped him and finished him off with a high elbow guillotine. He also cashes as a sizable underdog.

PRISCILLA CACHOEIRA gets a 1st round TKO victory over ARIANE LIPSKI. These two women just unleashed on each other from the opening bell and traded bombs in the pocket.  When it was all over it was zombie girl CACHOEIRA who was still standing. She cashes as a sizable underdog. Congratulations to everyone who took the plus money dog shot on her.

AZAMAT MURZAKANOV gets a 3rd round GNP TKO after he dropped DEVIN CLARK with a vicious body shot Unfortunately I missed most of the 1st round due to technical issues with my internet but CLARK seemed somewhat outgunned in this one. MURZAKANOV scores his 2nd KO in as many UFC fights and remains undefeated. This guy has heavy hands and he appears to be the real deal.

The battle of the YAZMIN/IASMIN was probably one of the most impressive double debuts I have ever seen in all my years of watching UFC fights. These two young prospects were easily FOTN up to this point in the evening and the crowd was going absolutely nuts for them. Both young ladies came for war but it was JUREQUI who ended up getting the judges nod over LUCINDO who gave a great account of herself in a losing effort. I cannot wait for their next outings. If this fight was any indication of what's in store we can safely assume that both of their careers as well as the future of the UFC are very bright.

NATE LANDWHER wins an impressive decision over highly touted DAVID ONAMA in what was not only FOTN but potentially FOTY. Shoutout to Jacob Lines of WWP on yet another successful “lock of the week”.  LANDWHER was dropped early in the first and quite possibly flash KO'd but credit to him for somehow staying in the fight and taking over in the latter rounds. ONAMA rallied late in the 3rd but ultimately it was LANDWHER who had the bigger moments in what turned out to be an epic fight.

The evening's main event played out exactly like I predicted in my RFQP article when MARLON “CHITO” VERA dropped DOMINICK CRUZ with a nasty head kick in the 4th round. CRUZ was dancing around and winning the minutes with volume and the odd takedown but he was dropped twice by Chito, whose power and composure was on full display. It was just a matter of time until he managed to land the seminal knockout blow and close the show. This was a great main event to close out another fantastic card but if it were up to me these cards would be at least 20 fights deep.

Congratulations to everyone who cashed tonight as we head into UFC 278 to close out the 12 consecutive week of fights before the dreaded week off.
